Global Partnership for Education (GPE) - World Bank Group - Burkina Faso: Civil society helps displaced children enroll in schools

In Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, Djelika — a young girl from a displaced family — is back in school, reclaiming her education after her life was disrupted by insecurity.

Her story reflects the reality faced by many displaced children across the country, where insecurity has forced families to flee and disrupted access to schooling. Through the support of civil society organizations, working in close collaboration with government partners under the GPE-funded programme, children like Djelika are being identified, enrolled, and supported to reintegrate into education.

For Djelika, returning to school is more than just resuming lessons — it is a step toward stability, confidence, and hope for the future.

Trans.Lieu was engaged by GPE to produce this human-interest story, following Djelika’s journey and highlighting how collective efforts are helping displaced children regain access to education.
